Zions National Park

Over Memorial Day weekend Mike and I decided to head down to St. George for a quick vacation.

We left on Friday and stayed at Mike's Aunt and Uncles place. On Saturday we ended up going into Zion's National Park. We rode the bus up to Weeping Rock first.

Next we hiked up to Angel's Landing. We hiked most of the way going up all the switch backs. When we got to a landing area we stopped there. There was no way I was going to take the rest of the hike over a narrow crossing and straight up to the top. It was also getting a little late. Someday I might get brave and take the hike up to the top. Mike would have done it but felt that it was getting late.

On Sunday we attended a local ward just around the corner from where we stayed. After Church we decided to walk around the St. George Temple. It is a beautiful temple. See if you can find Lindsay in the last picture above.

While at the temple we hear a lady talking about a statue of a Robert Gardner Jr. over by the tabernacle. We decided to head over there and see it. We found out that Robert Gardner Jr. was one the first Mayor of St. George. They had a dedicatory meeting to dedicate the statue earlier in the month. There were hundreds of Gardner ancestors in the tabernacle. It would have been great to have been there. Robert Gardner Jr. is my Great-Great Grandfather.

On Monday we ended up hiking the narrows for about 4 hours. We had to hike through the water a lot of the way. Some parts of the water was almost waist deep for me and knee deep for Mike. In most places it was hard to see how deep the water was or what size of rocks we would be walking on. We were able to cross back and forth over the river onto dry ground so we were not always in the water. It was a great hike and really beautiful. It was probably the highlight of the trip.

On our way home we decided to stop and take a short hike in Kolob Canyon. The view was spectacular and we were able to see the northern rim of the Grand Canyon.

One of Mike's family's traditions when he was younger was stopping at the Cheese Factory in Beaver and getting some ice cream. Mike decided that it was much cooler when he was young.
